What does Buffalo Doula Services offer?
Buffalo Doula Services was founded in 2014 by Jennifer Lombardo, who dreamed of offering professional and compassionate labor and postpartum support to Buffalo area families. In the years since, we have added multiple new services as well as additional members to the BDS team, each with their own set of skills and specialties. Read on if you’re wondering what a doula does, or explore our website for more.
labor support
Labor doulas offer educational, physical, and emotional support during pregnancy and labor. Doulas provide a continuity of care that is often lacking in modern day maternity care. Research shows that people who hire doulas are more likely to have a vaginal birth and view their birth as a positive or enjoyable experience, and are less likely to use pain medication, or have a cesarean birth.
Postpartum doulas provide emotional and physical support and evidence-based information to growing families in their home. We help to bring comfort and healing in whichever way they need, whether it’s helping to prep healthy meals, light household maintenance, sibling care, or being a nonjudgmental ear to listen. We can also provide basic newborn care and feeding information (breast or bottle), and help support the whole family by caring for the baby so that the new parents can rest.
postpartum support
night nannying
We have trained, certified, and experienced postpartum doulas who specialize in overnight newborn care and offer night nanny services. Your doula stays close to baby all night and quickly responds to their every need, so new parents can get the sleep they need to recover from birth and wake up feeling refreshed and ready to enjoy the day with their baby.
A birth photographer is skilled in capturing moments of labor and birth that may otherwise go unnoticed or unremembered. We are ready at a moment’s notice to join our clients during labor, and free up birth partners and other members of the birth team to focus solely on the laboring person. Check out some of our photos here.

Our quality childbirth education classes have prepared dozens of expectant couples for labor, birth, and postpartum over the last five years. We thoroughly review evidence-based information on the stages of labor, medical and non-medical comfort measures, birth options, postpartum, and newborn care.
