At the BDS Postpartum Doula Training, you have the invaluable opportunity to learn from four of Buffalo’s top postpartum professionals!

The Postpartum Doula Training is the creation of Jennifer Lombardo and Rhiannon Needham - two women who have been prominent and respected members of the doula community for over a decade.

Jen is the founder and owner of BDS, and has been a labor and postpartum doula, educator, and birth photographer since 2014. She has created a successful, sustainable business while building a solid reputation within the birth community for the professionalism, compassion, and quality BDS offers. Jen’s extensive experience attending hundreds of births and working with numerous families throughout the postpartum period has allowed her to create doula trainings that focus on lived experiences, current evidence-based research, and up-to-date resources. She’s excited to help foster the passion for supporting families in new postpartum doulas.

Rhiannon Needham is a full spectrum doula with additional certification in perinatal mental health (PMH-C). She supports families through fertility, pregnancy, birth, postpartum, loss, and everything in between. Rhiannon is currently completing her doctoral studies to become a Clinical Psychologist with a focus on perinatal and postpartum mental health and intimacy support for partners. Since her own training, she has seen the absolute need for education and support in reproductive, birthing, and postpartum spaces, and is eager to walk alongside others on this journey.

Marissa Bierl is an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), which is the highest credential for lactation support professionals. She specializes in complex feeding issues and completed Tethered Oral Tissue specialty training in 2022. She is locally known as an expert in infant oral function and as a compassionate, respectful lactation consultant. Marissa is a self-proclaimed extrovert turned introvert, but get her in front of a bunch of parents-to-be or anyone in the birth community and her passion for lactation and oral function shines through. Marissa will cover in-depth information around lactation and breast/chest feeding, bottle feeding, pumping, and much more so you can feel confident in your ability to support a client through any infant feeding issue.

Erika Sammarco joined BDS with a fifteen year background in providing childcare and an education in early childhood development. This knowledge has served as an invaluable bridge to her postpartum care and night nannying services. Erika has worked with countless families, and approaches each experience with the common goal of providing thoughtful postpartum support and nurturing care, while using evidence-based practices to meet the emotional and physical needs of families. With this knowledge and experience, Erika is excited to work with aspiring postpartum doulas who share the passion for supporting wellness, recovery, and familial adjustment during the postpartum period.
